The Attributed Officer Overcoat of U.S. Army 4 Star General John E. Hull

The very high quality belted wool overcoat retains the contractor tag within the interior pocket, marked as a size 38 Regular and dated in January of 1953. There is one barely visible hole in the upper back, but otherwise the coat is in excellent condition, with the removable wool liner in place. Each shoulder epaulette carries a matching cloth slide that is embroidered with four silver bullion rank stars. The overcoat is attributed to General John E. Hull, a combat veteran of World War I and a major figure in the planning of both the North Africa and Normandy invasions in the Second World War. He was Vice Chief of Staff of the United States Army, commanded the U.S. Army, Pacific, from 1948 to 1949, and the Far East Command from 1953 to 1955. He served in both world wars and was a contemporary of generals George Marshall and Omar Bradley. Because of his primary role in planning Allied operations throughout World War II, he was credited with having more experience integrating strategy with overseas operations than any other Army officer. He was Chair of the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board under president Dwight Eisenhower from 1 March 1958 to 20 January 1961.
