Named and Cased Korean War Posthumous Silver Star and Purple Heart to an African American Artilleryman

$55.52 $69.4
The Silver Star and the Purple Heart are both slot brooch suspensions and both are officially named to “Zephyr Brim” of the 96th Field Artillery Battalion. The Purple Heart shows some wear to the gilt finish, but otherwise both medals are in excellent condition and they are contained within their titled black leather cases together with the ribbon bars and enamel lapel badges. The cased medals are accompanied by the original typed General Orders of the United States Army Korea, dated 4 May, 1951. The General Orders include the award of the Silver Star posthumously to Corporal Brim for gallantry in action near Yonghung, Korea: “At 0200 hours on 7 November 1950, when a numerically superior hostile force attacked his battery, Corporal Brim remained in an exposed position and delivered devastating rifle fire on the enemy throughout the hours of darkness. At daylight he went to the battery command post where he obtained a supply of ammunition, then returned to his position and again placed accurate fire on the enemy, routing them from the area. As he was pursuing several enemy soldiers across open terrain, he was killed. The gallant and intrepid actions of Corporal Brim were instrumental in repelling the enemy attack and reflected great credit on himself and the military service.”Also with the group is a photocopy of the recommendation for the Silver Star as well as a photocopy of a Captain of Artillery who witnessed to valor of Corporal Brim. Overall very good condition.
